THE BEGINNING…

Literie Laurier has excelled at keeping its customers satisfied for close to 70 years. Its Montreal plant, which was founded in 1938, manufactures high quality products that are shipped across North America. Literie Laurier is a leading manufacturer of high quality mattresses.

In the late 1930s, Lucien St-Pierre started what would become a long family tradition, building a solid regional reputation for Laurier Bedding that would continue to grow.

In 1972, his son, Claude St-Pierre, continued to develop the company.
In 1980, François St-Pierre, Claude St-Pierre's elder son, joined his father's plant.
And in 1984, Marc St-Pierre, the younger son also joined the family business.

MERGER…

Matelas Martin was a mattress manufacturer that had been in operation since 1950. In 1993, company president Jean-Claude Martin handed his company over to his nephew Denis Benoît. Talks and negotiations were initiated between Literie Laurier and Matelas Martin. Although both manufacturers enjoyed solid reputations in their own right, to conquer the provincial market, it was clear that a merger was necessary.

In 1994, François St-Pierre, Marc St-Pierre and Denis Benoît devised an expansion plan for Literie Laurier.

And in the late 1990s, the decision was made to open retail outlets and market products directly to customers. So, Au Monde du Matelaswas launched. Today, the company has two well-established retail outlets. To make its mark, Au Monde du Matelas stocked the best products on the market, and created its own house brand while offering national brands such as Sealy et Simmons.
